OGIP Youth Advocates Network

The OGIP Advocates Network was formed in 2020 and launched in 2021 and brings together young peace and security advocates from across the world to share knowledge and shape practice. Peace and security is a field dominated by an older generation and largely shaped by patriarchal institutions from the Global North. Young people are peace and security experts in their own right and should be treated as such.

Are you interested in working with a Network Member?

Below is our Experts Roster, featuring the profiles of many young people engaged in our Network community. While many of our Network members are featured here, it is not always safe for young advocates to profile their work. Young people deserve a seat at the table, so we encourage you to work with our community for your events and projects. If you are interested in connecting with a youth advocate please reach out to us at OGIPNetwork@gmail.com with details of your request and we will connect you. To help remove barriers to youth participation, we expect that engagement with our Network members will be full, equal and meaningful. This means:

  • Preparations for the opportunity occur with ample time
  • Young people are considered and included early on
  • Any financial requirements for participation are met
  • Access to comprehensive information that is needed for their participation is provided in advance
  • The decision-making power, independence and voice of the young person is respected and supported
  • Adequate compensation and support is provided; if financial remuneration is not possible, different means of compensation should be discussed
  • The opportunity for long term engagement or influence is provided
